Built in 1999, this little jewel with all ocean view accommodations is situated on the island of Isla Mujeres, a 25-minute boat ride from Cancun. And with that boat, one is transported into another world, a world still relatively unspoiled by tourism. The hotel's catamaran provides scheduled transfers to Cancun on the mainland daily. Private transfers are available for a fee.

With its open, airy lobby, Villa Rolandi caters to couples only - children are not allowed - and each of the 31 Junior Suites have private terraces with sea views and inviting Jacuzzi tubs. One seductive detail is the shower with a view of the ocean and six showerheads so a couple can shower together. If you are feeling chilled, a flick of a switch turns the shower into a steam shower! Third level rooms have beautiful vaulted masonry ceilings, where first floor rooms open onto the hotel's infinity pool from which one reaches the hotel's small, private beach. The new three level Presidential Suite, decorated with beautiful marble finishing, has a master bedroom, living and dining room areas, bar, spacious bathroom and private rooftop solarium with outdoor Jacuzzi.

Rooms are booked on an MAP basis. Breakfast can be served conveniently through a small door so that no one has to dress to receive room service. Rooms have marble bathrooms, double sinks, hair dryers, magnifying mirrors (although judging from all the young couples we saw, they probably are not yet using these!), in-room safe, cable television, and mini bar. Dining in the seafront restaurant - Casa Rolandi - offers not only an exceptional meal but also an exceptional view of the sunset. Another wonderful new amenity is the Thalasso Therapy Spa that offers massages, corporal treatments and facials; clients should book treatments with anticipation during high season. A sauna and gym are incorporated in the spa area so guests can stay fit during a decadent and relaxing vacation - the best of both worlds!
