Castello Banfi il Borgo
C. Italy: Tuscany: Montalcino
Set in 7100 hectares of land in the Montalcino area, Castello Banfi il Borgo is one of the most important wine producers in Tuscany with an annual production of 13 million bottles (remember that this is the area where the super-Tuscan Brunello di Montalcino wines are produced). And now, for the first time, they have opened 14 rooms and suites in the castle's borgo that range in size up to 100 square meters (junior suite #27), are beautifully appointed, many with huge "Hollywood-size" bathrooms with a huge separate shower, and two to three windows per room plus a window in the bathroom.
In addition to the impressive 9th century castle which is home to the owners, the property offers an excellent restaurant which has a Michelin Star. The first time guests dine on the property, the sommelier pairs the wines with their choices from the menu so the guests can try them (and inevitably, end up buying them!). The enoteca is amazing! It is huge with one side for buying and one side for tasting. For more casual dining, lunch and dinner are also served at La Taverna - a perfect place to try some authentic Tuscan cuisine! Amenities include a large swimming pool and a fitness room, as well as lots of countryside activities including horseback riding, hot air ballooning, hiking, and biking. During cooler weather, a reading room with a huge fireplace welcomes guests. Other things of interest on the property are an antique glass museum, historic balsameria (they sell outstanding balsamic vinegar!), and a taverna. This property is an amazing choice for gourmands and oenophiles, as well as weddings and families.
NOTE: Due to limited seating and increased popularity lunch and dinner reservations are REQUIRED at both restaurants. This property not recommended for those persons who are limited in mobility.
