Puglia's Trulli Houses and Wines 4 Hours Your driver and guide will pick you up at your hotel at 9:00 a.m. to drive to the charming town of Alberobello to see its unique trulli houses. Circular structures made of white washed stone without mortar, they feature conical roofs tiled in grey slate and topped with pinnacles. Many trulli have astrological or religious symbols painted on the roof. Walk the narrow streets of the historical center, and then tour a trulli house, the Trullo Sovrano. Next learn about and enjoy some of the local wines of the area: visit a wine museum and then an ancient wine cellar to taste three kinds of locally produced wine. Included with the wine tasting are typical Puglian appetizers such as tatallini and friselle. Lecce's Exuberant Baroque and Local Cuisine 7 Hours Your driver will pick you up at 9:00 a.m. for the drive to Lecce, known at the Florence of Baroque, where you will meet your guide. A city of great beauty and history, Lecce was both a Greek and Roman town. But it is most famous for its Baroque Leccese architecture, a lively version of Baroque that flourished between the 16th and 18th centuries. The city's most striking church, the Basilica di Santa Croce, has a glorious faade exploding with flora, fauna, monsters and angels. Visit the complex in Piazza del Duomo: the lavish cathedral with its ornately carved altar and 210 ft. bell tower; the Palazzo del Vescovo or Bishop's Palace; and the seminary with its fantastic Baroque well. At Piazza Sant'Oronzo see the 1st century B.C. Roman amphitheater. Then depart for Corigliano D'Otranto, about 35km away, to an ancient masseria or farmhouse.
