JDB Tours do not have to be booked in conjunction with a hotel booking, private villa or apartment rental. Most vehicles used for tours are Mercedes: E or S class cars, V-class vans & 16 seat Sprinter or Ducato minibuses. However, JDB Ground retains the right to substitute a different vehicle type if necessary. Tour itineraries are subject to change due to site closings, inclement weather, strikes or other unforeseen circumstances. JDB Ground reserves the right to substitute a venue or site during a tour in the event the scheduled site is not available. In rare instances it may be necessary to reschedule the starting time of the tour; in such situations, clients will be notified in advance.

Entrance fees to museums and exhibits are not included in the rate unless indicated, nor are gratuities for drivers and guides. Unless otherwise indicated in the tour description, tours begin at 9:00 a.m. and are available daily. The guide will meet clients at their hotel, unless another meeting point is designated in the itinerary. Rates are subject to change.

Palermo Walking Tour

Meet your guide in the heart of Palermo 's historical center, at Quattro Canti (Four Corners), a famous crossroads with fine examples of 17th century Spanish Baroque architecture and lovely fountains. Stroll to Piazza Pretoria with its beautiful 16th century Florentine fountain and the City Hall, dating to 1463. Then visit a 12th century Greek Orthodox church, La Martorana, with its intricate Norman mosaics. Just opposite is the Arab Norman style church of San Cataldo, distinguished by three small red domes. The city's cathedral or Duomo, a fusion of Gothic, Arabic and Baroque architecture, was once a mosque - there is a verse of the Koran inscribed on one of its columns. Next, take a stroll through the lively Arab market, and end with a tour of the Massimo Theatre (closed Mondays).

Highlights of Palermo and Monreale

Your driver and guide will pick you up at your hotel at 9:00 a.m. for a drive through the different areas of the city to view its various architectural styles: Liberty or Art Nouveau, Baroque, Arabic, French Norman, and some of its more important sites: Quattro Canti, Piazza Pretoria, Massimo Theatre. Visit the imposing Palermo cathedral, at one time a mosque, to view its Arabic, Gothic and Baroque influences. The spacious interior houses the tombs of several Sicilian monarchs. Then drive to Monreale to see its famous 12th century cathedral, considered the finest example of Norman architecture in Sicily. Its dazzling interior is almost completely covered in gilded mosaics, the work of Byzantine artisans.
