D-Day Landing Beaches
8 - 9 Hours
On June 6, 1944, Allied forces landed on the coast of lower Normandy to begin the liberation of Europe from the tyranny of the Nazis. Re-live the principal events and battles that made up the Battle of Normandy: see Utah and Omaha landing beaches and some of the inland battlefields, as well as the American cemetery and Sainte Mere Eglise, where John Steel's parachute was caught on the church steeple. Your expert guide will recommend several restaurant choices for lunch (additional cost) and depending on your preference and time available, take you to museums that illustrate the history of some of the major battles; the Pointe du Hoc; Pegasus Bridge or the artificial harbor at Arromanches. These poignant visits to places where history was made will never be forgotten.

Honfleur - The Town That Inspired Monet
8 - 9 Hours
A visit to Honfleur is in itself a complete history lesson, from the 100 years war, through the 17th century voyages of discovery to the New World, to the art of the impressionists. Today it is a favorite retreat for painters who paint the harbor and the colorful 17th century houses surrounding St. Catherine's Quay, the same images seen in the paintings of Monet. Go through the old "Caen Gate," the last remaining piece of the 14th century wall that once surrounded the town. Enjoy a walk through the medieval center with its picturesque architecture and see the town's oldest church dating to the 14th century. Then visit the largest wooden church in France, St. Catherine's, built by the ship carpenters of Honfleur. After a stop for lunch (additional charge) you will have the opportunity to visit your choice of several areas near Honfleur: the Pont de Normandy bridge; the 17th century Chapel of Notre Dame de Grace; seaside villages and old whaling stations; Deauville and La Cote Fleurie, a favorite holiday destination for Parisiennes. Or you may chose to explore the farming area of Normandy, Le Pays D'Auge, known for its production of Camembert cheese, Calvados liqueur and cider and home to some of the most beautiful villages in France.

NOTE: Includes private car and driver/licensed guide, tolls and parking fees. Lunch is not included in the cost.

Mont St. Michel: A Miracle or a Mirage?
8 - 9 Hours
The symbol of Normandy and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mont St. Michel was built over several centuries on a rock in the sea that has been considered sacred since the 3rd century B.C. At low tide, it is surrounded by bare sand stretching many miles in the distance; 6 hours later, at high tide, the same expanse is under water. Covering the summit is a massive abbey topped by a slender spire. Enjoy a magnificent view of the bay and surrounding salt marshes from the ramparts of the medieval town walls; stroll the narrow, winding cobblestone streets lined with 15th and 16th century buildings; learn the history of the great abbey illustrated by its various architectural styles. For lunch (additional cost) try an omelette at the famous Mere Poulard, or eat in one of the other restaurants or brasseries. In the afternoon you will have the choice of visiting several nearby areas: the ancient town of St. Malo; Cancale and La Pointe Du Grouin, famous for its oysters; Avranches, where General George Patton opened the route for the allied advance into Germany; or Villedieu Les Poeles, where beautiful items of copper are hand crafted.
