Valldemossa and Soller: Chopin's Retreat and the Orange Blossom Express 8 Hours Depart your hotel at 9:30 a.m. for the drive toward Valldemossa, through the beautiful landscape of mountains and plains filled with almond and olive trees. First stop is a former Carthusian monastery, built in 1399 and where, in the winter of 1838, the famous Polish composer Frederick Chopin and writer George Sand lived, and Sand's A Winter in Mallorca was written. Visit the monk's cells and library, the chapel and pharmacy, and see the piano where Chopin composed some of his masterpieces. Enjoy a 15 minute piano concert before continuing the drive, stopping at Foradada, a promontory with spectacular views of the sea, and traveling along the coastline via the artist's colony of Deia.
