Villa di Piazzano
C. Italy: Tuscany: Cortona
This wonderful villa sits on the border between Tuscany and Umbria, just 2.5 miles from Cortona. Originally built as a hunting lodge by Cardinal Passerini who died in 1529, the villa has been beautifully restored by the family who own and manage it. All the rooms are large and furnished with antiques, the tiled bathrooms are immaculate (with excellent water pressure!), and many suites and junior suites have a window in the bathroom. (One has such a wonderful countryside view, clients take their cameras into the bathroom instead of reading material!) There are two connecting rooms - each with its own ensuite bathroom - that are perfect for families. There is a large swimming pool and a lovely terrace for breakfast during good weather. The villa has a dining room open only to its guests, where a four course dinner featuring traditional Tuscan cuisine is offered in the evening. A light lunch of salads, local cheeses, cold cuts and breads is served in the villa's garden. . This is a PERFECT place to base to explore the Tuscan towns of Cortona, Pienza, Montepulciano, and Montalcino as well as northern Umbria. And nowhere will you receive a warmer welcome than from the Wimpole family! John even bakes fresh croissants in their wonderful kitchen every morning!
NOTE: Hotel is closed during January and February.
