Villa Campestri

This charming 13th century villa, with one section dating to the medieval period and another dating to the Renaissance, was owned by one family for 700 years! Located only 45 minutes by car from the center of Florence, Villa Campestri has a commanding position 3 kilometers above the valley of Tuscany. Because of its altitude, the owner has not found it necessary to have air-conditioning. Many antique furnishings have been used in the rooms and each has a bathroom with sparkling cobalt blue and white tiles that are made in a local ceramics factory (visits can be arranged). The two-bedroom apartments are perfect for families. Facilities at the hotel include a very good restaurant serving some of the best homemade ravioli in Italy and featuring olive oil produced on the property, a large swimming pool in a picturesque setting overlooking the Tuscan valley, and lots of places for hiking and picnics. Villa Campestri has quickly become a JDB favorite because of its welcoming and unpretentious atmosphere, its large rooms, favorable rates, and because the owner and his daughter are sensational with their guests. Their most ambitious project has been the creation of the first OLEOTECA in Italy. Situated in the old cellars, lessons on and tastings of olive oil are organized in the OLEOTECA.
