Ross Lake House Hotel
Ireland: County Galway: Oughterard
Built as a landlord's residence by James Edward Jackson in 1850, at the turn of the 20th century, the estate comprised 1200 acres including a nine-hole golf course with a membership of 12! Golfing was confined to the gentry at the time. Converted to a hotel in 1971, the present owners acquired it in 1982 and have spent nearly 20 years creating the elegant oasis of tranquility Ross Lake House now offers. With a small number of accommodations (three suites, three superior rooms and seven standard rooms), guests have the feeling of being in the home of good friends. All rooms are beautifully appointed and rates reflect the size of accommodations, as the standard for all is high. Set amongst mature trees and rolling lawns, the echoes of gracious living are carried throughout the house, from the lovely drawing room to the cozy bar and intimate dining room. Here you will enjoy fine wines and a tempting variety of Irish cuisine beautifully prepared using products from the nearby Connemara hills and streams as well as fish straight from the Atlantic. This is a wonderful base from which to explore the rugged and beautiful Connemara and Burren regions as well as the Aran Islands. Clifden, with its wonderful art galleries and scenic drives, is on the Connemara peninsula, a short drive from Ross Lake House.
NOTE: Gratuities are at the guests' discretion. Closed November 1st until 15th of March.
