Locanda Vivaldi
N. Italy: Veneto: Venice
At one time the home where Vivaldi lived and composed his music, this historic property is comprised of two buildings - one dating to the 15th century, the other dating to the 17th century with a tiny garden in between. The one fronting on the Grand Canal is the one that was Vivaldi's residence. Some of the beautifully appointed rooms face directly on the Grand Canal, and some face on the side canal where the taxi boats can deliver guests directly to the hotel. Rooms feature upholstered walls, white marble bathrooms with either hydro massage tub or shower, mini bar, in-room safe, and satellite television. Room 302 is a beautiful junior suite facing the Grand Canal, and Room 301 is also a very nice junior suite facing the back of the hotel (and, therefore, very quiet). The large leaded glass windows along the staircase create a light and airy effect and are original as are most of the stone floors which were preserved during the conversion to a hotel. There is a restaurant (and bar) at the top of the hotel on a terrace facing the Grand Canal that is open only in the evenings, only for the hotel's guests, and only during warm weather months. The very attractive breakfast room is on the ground floor in an atrium like space. The hotel is owned and managed by the Dazzo family.
NOTE: SAN ZACCARIA is the closest stop for guests taking the public vaporetto. The hotel has a private dock for water taxis.
